At HighScope, we learn not only through books and assessments, but we also get to do experiments. For example, I made a cell phone projector for my Science project. I applied what I had learned about the physics of light to make a projector by putting a cell phone into a shoebox, then using lenses and mirrors to project an image to a wall.

I think HighScope is different because we are taught more than just lessons from textbooks. In HighScope we learn Core Values and Habits of Empowerment to help us have a positive attitude in our daily lives. HighScope also teaches us Learner Outcomes as skills which will help us now, as students, and also in the future.

I think HighScope teaches us the process of learning and collaborating more than other schools. A good grade is usually the goal in other schools, but in HighScope the process of completing a task is the most important thing. For our Community Work Experience, we helped out at a local kindergarten in Bandung. We refurbished the school building so it would be a more pleasant and exciting environment for both teachers and students.

In a multi-age classroom, I can have more friends and I can interact with students from other grades. For example, right now I’m in 5th Grade but I have friends from 4th Grade in the same classroom. If my junior doesn’t understand something, I can help explain the lesson to them. I can also help them study during our free time and explain the lessons they will have to study when they move up.

When I moved from Elementary School to Middle School, I had new friends, teachers, and lessons. Knowing how to adapt helped me have an easier time socializing.I also experienced using Social Problem Solving in a business setting during last year's Business Day. My team had decided beforehand to sell hydroponic plants, but we had unexpected problems during our preparations. So we had to come up with a solution in a short period of time. After discussion, we came up with an idea to sell hydroponic tutorial kits instead. In the end, it was a success and we made a lot of profit.

In class, we have the chance to socialize with students from different grades. We also get to experience working together with them. I’m excited to go to school because I can meet my friends and find new challenges. For example, our teachers would often ask us to share some knowledge to our friends. We are also challenged to find solutions when completing projects.

I like the fact that HighScope is different in the way they teach subjects. For example, other schools may teach students how to answer questions but HighScope also teaches manners and how to apply our knowledge in real life. I think the most important things I’ve learned in HighScope are how to have good manners, to be respectful, and to be friendly.

In HighScope, we learn how to apply knowledge to our daily lives. I like going to school at HighScope because I get to meet a lot of friends. I can also work on having a better attitude, like learning how to be respectful to others.

HighScope is better because it’s fun. We made crayons, a pouch for pencils, and stickers in class. I also have so many friends. I have many friends who are my age and older. I love this one activity called “Funny Food”. I drew a food item and drew a face on top of the food. I made a marshmallow face, a cupcake, a cake, and a cookie. Some of them had bows on them.

HighScope has Plan-Do-Review. We usually make certain projects, and I can make anything I want. Last week, I was in a group project making a whiteboard eraser using magnets. We put one magnet on the back of the eraser and another one right on the edge of the whiteboard, so they stick together. Now I’m going to make a model of an aquarium with goldfish, seaweed, and corals.

In a multi-age classroom, we can interact with students of different ages and make friends. Even when we move to a higher grade, we will still be friends with them even though we’re in different classes. At HighScope, we have a method for Social Problem Solving that is taught very early on. First, we need to ask the other person what they don’t like about the situation, then teachers help us find a solution that we both agree on. This way, the students learn to get along well.

HighScope is different because we have a multi-age classroom system. So students from two different grades study together in one classroom. In a multi-age classroom, I can make more friends, I can meet new people, and I can help my juniors whenever they need a hand.

HighScope is a fun school because we learn not only by doing paperwork, but by doing group work and projects. My most exciting experience was when I did my project last term. The result was a success, and it was even taken to another HighScope school as an example for other students.
