Encourage the Family to Live Healthily: HighScope Indonesia Alfa Indah School Successfully Holds Family Fun Run

Saturday morning, September 20, 2025, the North Plaza of Gelora Bung Karno was filled with cheerful spirits and energetic steps. Hundreds of participants from the extended family of Sekolah HighScope Indonesia (SHI) Alfa Indah gathered for one purpose: to celebrate togetherness through the Family Fun Run 2025, supported by the Research and Development for Advancement (Redea) Institute. More than just a sporting event, this activity became a fun, healthy, and meaningful learning opportunity, bringing to life the values of active learning and collaboration that are characteristic of SHI.

From kindergarten children to alumni now making their mark in various fields, everyone mingled in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. It wasn't a competition with a finish line to be chased, but rather steps full of the spirit of togetherness and mutual support. This moment served as a reminder that the best education often happens outside the classroom, when children and parents learn together through real experiences.

Designed to be inclusive and family-friendly, this casual run session fostered warm interaction between children and parents. They ran side-by-side, encouraging each other, and enjoying quality time that is often hard to come by amid daily routines. This is where values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance were honed in a democratic learning atmosphere.

After the run, the atmosphere became even livelier with performances by the students of Sekolah HighScope Indonesia Alfa Indah. They performed confidently in sports demonstrations, dances, and songs that they had passionately prepared. Every movement and expression was the result of a learning process that builds intrinsic motivation and encourages children to be brave enough to perform, collaborate, and express themselves in a positive way.

“Seeing the children and parents running together, cheering each other on, laughing, and enjoying the process, it’s not just exercise, but a concrete form of the teamwork we train them in from an early age,” said Ibu Gina Ardiany Karsana, Owner of Sekolah HighScope Indonesia - Alfa Indah. “We believe that the best learning happens when children feel supported and actively involved, not just by teachers, but also by their families.”

According to Ibu Gina, activities like the Family Fun Run provide a safe space for children to apply the habits they learn in school. “We consistently instill Core Values and Habits of Empowerment, which are the core values and habits that encourage children to dare to make decisions, be responsible, and contribute to a team. And today, we can see how they practice that firsthand, alongside their parents.”

She also added that the values instilled in school are not only applied within the classroom but are lived out in the children's daily lives. “When they can collaborate with their parents in an enjoyable atmosphere like this, we can see how those values grow well.”

Ibu Sandra Dewi Rosida, Head of SHIPA (HighScope Indonesia Parents Association) for Sekolah HighScope Indonesia-Alfa Indah, expressed her happiness over the successful execution of the event. “Seeing the children and parents share moments together feels so warm. We believe that experiences like this will become new, memorable memories on their journey while attending school here.”

She also hopes that activities like the Family Fun Run can continue in the future. “We want children and families to have more space to grow together, learn together, and enjoy the process. Hopefully, there will be more activities like this in the future that can strengthen the relationship between the school and the parents.”

The presence of alumni also added a unique dimension to the event. They came not just to reminisce but also to encourage and inspire their younger peers. Many of them admitted that the values of Sekolah HighScope Indonesia have become an important foundation in their current lives, whether in the world of work, further education, or social life.

For many families, the Family Fun Run was not just about exercising together, but also about creating memories that the children will cherish in the future. Simple moments like encouraging each other on the track, laughing together while performing on stage, or just sitting side-by-side enjoying the atmosphere, became an irreplaceable part of their developmental journey.

This activity also demonstrated how the school can be an open and fun space for all members of its community. When children, parents, teachers, and alumni come together in one inclusive and spirited activity, a healthy learning ecosystem is created, where every individual feels valued, involved, and empowered.

Beneath the cheerfulness of the event, it was clear how the constructivist learning philosophy was tangibly applied. The children didn't just perform; they led, created, and supported each other. They learned about responsibility, communication, and how to be part of a respectful community.

The atmosphere at the North Plaza GBK that day was not just about sports, but about building home-school collaboration. Every step taken, every cheer heard, was part of a joyful and meaningful learning process.

With a spirit of collaboration and active learning, the Family Fun Run 2025 proved that education can come in a simple yet highly impactful form. When the child, parent, and school walk together, the learning process becomes more vibrant and memorable.

And that day, everyone who attended went home with a smile, because they didn't just run; they grew together.
