HiFFest 2022 "Stronger-Wellbeing, Truer Interaction"
Pursuing Self-Identity Through Everyday Authenticity

HighScope Film Festival (HiFFest), an annual short film competition for junior high school students
organized by OSIS SMP Sekolah HighScope Indonesia TB. Simatupang is back and it’s finally conducted
on-site. After 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic and carrying out activities to ensure the safety and
health of all participants, this year we are easing back to the new normal as the event returns to Sekolah
HighScope Indonesia TB. Simatupang, South Jakarta.

HiFFest is a special annual event for junior high school with a different theme each year. The theme this
time was "Self-Identity" with the motto Stronger-Wellbeing, Truer Interaction. This theme raised a
message about how the pandemic has affected the youths’ physical and mental well-being, especially in
how we interact with one another. How does one feel authentic interaction without proximity to direct
social interaction? The participants were inspired to address these challenges, to be adaptable and agile
to achieve stronger wellbeing and truer interaction.

This event is open to all junior high school students, from HighScope Indonesia Schools and other
schools across Indonesia. There were 8 (eight) short film titles by students from 7 (seven) participating
schools, namely:
1. Doa Dalam Nama - Sekolah HighScope Indonesia Bali
2. Do Not Disturb - Sekolah Global Mandiri Cibubur
3. Fit In - Sekolah Dian Didaktika
4. Gesang Lumaku - SMPN Sumber Pucung
5. The Sun, The Moon, and The Eclipse - Sekolah HighScope Indonesia TB. Simatupang Team 2
6. Semu - Sekolah HighScope Indonesia TB. Simatupang Team 2
7. Inikah Teman? - Bakti Mulia 400
8. Adaptasi - Global Mandiri Jakarta

The HiFFest competition has been held for 17 years and is a benchmark for young aspiring Indonesian
filmmakers in expressing their creativity, interests and talents in film media. Every year Hiffest has a
different theme as the foundation for the participants to develop their ideas through the medium of
short films.

The series of Hiffest 2022 activities consist of two stages, namely 2-day workshop (Movie Workshop) and
the peak event, Awarding Day. The workshop activities took place in November 2022. The 2-day online
workshop activities took place in November 2022, in which the participants received guidance from
mentors of the Karnos Film. The workshop included various classes covering the basics of filmmaking;
Film Production with Ario Rubbik, Script Writing with Mutiara Rizki, Acting with Ocky Yudiandra, and

The judges gave high appreciation for HiFFest 2022. Giorgino Abraham was very happy with his first
experience as a judge. “This is my first opportunity to directly see the work of Indonesia’s youths. I am
very happy to see the talent of these children and their enthusiasm for making short films,” said
Giorgino. Fellow actor Khiva Iskak also added and gave some encouragement to the participants, “I am
very happy to find that the youths are very enthusiastic about making films. The future of Indonesian
cinema looks bright. I encourage all of you to keep learning, hone your skills with practice. Theory
without practice is like walking in place. It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you're willing to move
forward." Ario Rubbik was very impressed with the work of this year's participants. “I am very happy to
be invited to be part of the Hiffest 2022 jury team for the seventh time. This year I saw some of the best
works for middle school level. It's always fun to see the young generation grow and evolve to create
interesting works, and hopefully it will continue to be even better in the future," said Ario Rubbik. Dea
Dalila, a Sekolah HighScope Indonesia TB. Simatupang alumna, felt very proud to be invited as a judge at
her school's event. “It is an honor to be invited here today, to see this generation’s eagerness to create,
to be provided with the opportunity to explore their talents. Hopefully in the future, through Hiffest,
these junior high school students can become individuals who can make Indonesia proud in the future."
Apart from the announcement of the best films based on the 12 (twelve) categories above, Awarding
Day was also enlivened by performances from Amora Lemos and Asila Maisa. Congratulations to the
winners; hopefully you will continue to be enthusiastic about stronger well-being and truer interactions.
